Chapter Newsletter
KS-C, February, 2012
It’s been a great start to 2012 with the mild winter we have had. We met at Red Robin on the first for our annual New Year’s Day ride. About 20 people attended with most of them arriving on two or three wheels. The food and service were great; I for one ate too much.
Brenda and I want to thank Marjie Crawford for the quilt she made for us as a gift from them recognizing us as couple of the year. Thank you again Marjie for your thoughtfulness; it is beautiful.
It is with sadness to report that John Gull lost his father shortly after Christmas, our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.
The Chapter C folks are all looking forward to a long and safe riding season. Remember when riding this time of year to be alert for both patches of ice and sand/salt on the roads. I was reading a forum the other day and stumbled on some excellent advice. Moisture can “weep” out of the surface of a road and freeze leaving an unexpected patch of ice. Al Davis also mentioned at a meeting recently to watch for places where people empty their drink cups, especially at stop lights where it can freeze leaving ice right where you want to put your foot down.
Our meeting was held on the 17th and there was a good turnout. Many things were discussed. Ron Crawford announced that Bill Hanson had volunteered for the Rider Education position. Thank you very much Bill for stepping up and assuming that responsibility. We are looking forward to a lot of good information from you. Also, Ron is still looking for a volunteer as assistant Chapter Director. If an OCP certification is needed by any individuals, it can now be completed online or a CD if your internet connection isn’t very fast. It is no longer required to attend the class in person. Duane Sherrad is the point of contact for OCP.
Ron also passed a flier around for the Vintage Motorcycle Show in Lawrence on the 5th. Admission is $5 and starts at 9:00 a.m. The supper ride for February will be on the 7th to Boomer’s in Holton. Time 6:30- 6:45
Brenda and Teresa went “shopping” for items for the Chapter Couple’s basket for mid-winter and according to them they spent too much money for the coffee themed basket. Teresa said that nobody else should even put a ticket in for the drawing since she is going to win it (outcome to follow).
Mid-Winter was again held in Emporia. The chapter had a good showing, if my memory is correct which automatically makes me wrong. Everybody from the chapter that attended won something, even me and that never happens. Ron was the big winner, getting the big money in the 50/50 drawing. Speaking of winning Teresa did not manage to win the coffee pot for her daughter, so she will now be relegated to instant coffee, since, according to a reliable source Teresa is too cheap to buy one.
The medallion hunt was over very quickly . Brenda Kistler had her hands full of stuff when the time came to get her picture taken, for the seating assignments, she laid the things behind the snowman and when she started to pick it back up there was something “dangling”, from a strategic location, which was the medallion. Total time from start of contest to finish 5 minutes, give or take. Congratulations Brenda.
The rest of Mid-Winter was typical with meeting and making new friends and catching up with old ones.
